I was following tutorials about vertex groups, but when I create a vertex group, there is no group name window below the groups, as there is in the tutorial. If I try to rename a group, it just gives a message at the top of mt Blender window that says “Not yet implemented” and I can’t do anything with the vertex group. I wanted to pin a cloth (plane) to a cylinder, but can’t get anywhere near that far because the group isn’t available for anything, even to rename it, let alone selecting it for any use. Are the vertex groups no longer available in this version of Blender? I am really tired of things not working EXACTLY like the tutorials show. How is someone (who is REALLY trying!) supposed to learn how to use Blender? Some people here have been helpful, but mostly people get frustrated and tell me I’m lazy, or not trying. Maybe the tutorials need to be updated because they do not work the same way with the latest version of Blender. If anyone has a source of accurate knowledge about using this version of Blender, please let me know. Thank you.

Double mouse or Ctrl+LMB click on the vertex group name

Yes, just like all previous versions except for the extremely minor change to renaming them.

Are you in Edit mode since that is the mode where you deal with the actual mesh data, including vertices
What tutorial ?
Show us what you have (annotated screenshots, screencast and blend files) so we know exactly what you have and what you are trying to achieve
Well as I said, the ONLY response from Blender when I try to select a vertex group is that error message “Not yet implemented” and I can go no further to do anything with the group.
You still haven’t shown us anything or supplied your blend file.
What version of blender ?
It’s in my thread title: 2.70a
No screen shot or blend file. And if you are doing things “EXACTLY” like the tutorial, then your results would be “EXACTLY” like the tutorial. Obviously you are doing something different, but no one can tell you what because you have not included a screen shot or a blend file.
i’ve been working with vertex groups in 2.70a just fine. Just some bugs using the weight edit/mix modifiers, and I already reported them.upload a screenshot, so we can see yer issue.
Wow! Does anyone actually read my posts? All I am asking is where to find a manual, tutorial or some knowledge base that is kept up to date with Blender releases. There is no need for me to post a .blend file or screenshot. And I am doing EXACTLY as the tutorial, but one example is that in the tutorial, which was for a 2.6x version, shows that when a new group is created, there is a place at the bottom of the group paned for the name of the group, where it is possible to rename it. However, in 2.70a. this does NOT happen. Instead (as someone here was kind enough to point out), you have to double-click the group name in the list, and THAT is how you can rename it. But how would I have ever known that if someone here hadn’t told me? This one of the things that makes me ask if there is a knowledge base that is up-to-date with the latest release(s). That’s my question and reason for posting here, and not for any one specific issue with a particular .blend file. This is a general question about how I can learn Blender.
Blender has a very fast development cycle, there’s changes almost every 2 months. Keep up with the documentation on their site.
OK, but could you tell me what documentation exactly? I didn’t see anything relating to new features, changes to existing features, etc.

So you now have no issues that stop you following a tutorial unlike what you said previously ? You don’t really need to rename a group for tutorials, using the default names will work just the same.
Thanks for the link. That helps. As for renaming groups, the tutorial I was following did rename the group (there were to be more than one group and so this was the way to differentiate later). So that’s what brought up my inquiry since I wasn’t getting the chance to rename. Of course that tutorial was for an earlier version. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
