Hello guys. I have the pleasure to work in this fabulous technic called “vertex paint”. Thanks to Vertex Color Master addon I can do my job in Blender.
But suddenly blender 2.8 doesn’t support the vertex alpha channel in 3d viewport. I didn’t find a way to set it (if you know how please show me the way).
Even with VCM add-on you can only isolate alpha channel, and paint it with black&wight.
You can’t see all the channels together, how alpha effects the color. Only B/W separately.
And it’s no way to get the alpha channel in materials nodes. For now.
So I found the way on my own. With magic and EEVEE you can do it. In case if anyone stack on the same problem, this is the way to solve.
Note: The transparent work only in EEVEE render engine mode.
You need to create two “Layers” of vertex paint. Color and Alpha.
Alpha layer you paint in black and white.

Create material like that. With two attributes, where you pointed to your “Color” and “Alpha” layers.
In the view for transparent effect in 3d view select “Look dev” or “Rendered” effect.
In Properties–>Render menu turn on Screen Space Reflections–>Refractions

And in Material properties, turn on “Screen space Refraction” and change “Blend mode” to Alpha Blend.

If you want to have one vertex color layer you can do this in “Vertex Color Master” addon.
Just copy any RGB channel from Alpha layer to Alpha channel in Color layer.

And that’s it. Enjoi.

If you know an easier way, don’t hesitate to notify me…
