I am using the latest Blender… 2.78a
I’m trying to learn some head modeling… My 2nd try at it… I created a head … got hair on it and eyebrows and eyelashes
and all… trying to add a little color to cheeks with vertex paint and little eye shadow above the eyes…
the vertex paint shows when rendered in Blender Render, but the hair don’t look so good… so wanted to
render in Cycles, but in Cycles, the hair looks better but the vertex paint don’t show up.
I added a material to the object, named it vertex colors…
Under the data button, I changed the “Col” to Vertex colors… (I actually tried to use “Col” and it didn’t work, so renamed it to “Vertex colors” that didn’t work either
in the Node system, I have the Material output, plug into it is the diffuse BSDF node and into it is the Attribute node
with name “Col” in it…
will not render my cheek and eye color… don’t know what I’m missing…
Here is my file…
thanks

You are using material assignment and none of the model’s faces are actually assigned to the material you are making. Your node tree is working fine, you only need to enter edit mode, select everything, and hit assign under the material panel in properties.

Oh okay… thanks… will try that… I thought it was assigned… I had started out with it in Blender render, but didn’t like the look of the hair so went to cycles and the vertex paint didn’t show up there…
thanks
I assigned the material color to the head, but my vertex colors on the cheek and eyes don’t appear
I assigned the lip color also… but don’t want to assign the eyelash, eyebrow color to the head… I only want
it on the hair part of it …
but the skin color is applied to the entire head… but vertex colors don’t show up
thanks
Okay… I finally got it working… changed the nodes around little and it is now working… Nodes at times confuse me,
but been trying to learn them…
thanks for your help
have good day
I do have a question… why does the hair become shorter in the rendered version than it is in the viewport??
It changes… is there a setting I need to do to make sure it looks the same in rendering as it does in the viewport??
I know why it changes the color… but no idea why it changes its look… my hair is combed to the floor I put under the head
but in the render it is shorter…
thanks
