Vertices accidently merged.

I have been building my first human and I extruded the upper legs down, last night and started adding shape, guess I got them too close together anyway I saved it. Started back today and found the two top loop cuts just below the croch are merged at the vertices. I worked with this all afternoon ,and read a little but had no luck. Anyone ever had this problem? I really could use some help.

You don’t provide a screenshot showing the situation but just use the modelling tools.
Ctrl+R to add a loop cut.
V to rip vetices
Use the Ctrl+V to show the vertex tools you have.
If you are using a mirror modifier, deselect ‘do clipping’ if neccessary to position your vertices away from the mid line.
