Vertices aren't being highlighted properly

Hi, I have a problem with one of my projects that I can’t seem to solve. It’s most likely a noob problem, but I just don’t know how to fix it.

Usually, when I select a vertex, the lines between that vertex and the surrounding vertices gets highlighted with yellow (I maybe changed the default settings to yellow instead of whatever colour the default was). The one side of the line that connects to the vertex I’ve selected will be bright yellow, and will fade out towards the other vertex at the other end of the line. This happens for all lines that are attached to the selected vertex, on all meshes for all objects in the scene in every single Blender project I have…

Except for one. This is my current and most important project to date. Now, I can most likely just carry on working on the model without these highlights, but I have become accustomed to seeing them when I’m modelling and they are a great indicator that lets me know if I have a vertex selected or not. But, now… I can’t see the highlighting any more.

I’ve opened up two Blender windows and gone through all the buttons on the interface between my current project and one of my other projects, to try to find the offending option so that I can put things back to normal. But I’m unable to locate any such feature.

EDIT: I’m using version 2.49b

Does anyone know how to turn the highlighting back on??

You may have double vertices, remove doubles.

No, this is happening to all vertices on the model, there aren’t any doubles, I should have mentioned that I’ve already checked for that :frowning:

Do you have anything in your modifier stack?

I found that if you turn on “apply modifier to editing cage in edit mode” (the button with the triangle of dots), this sometimes causes the edges to stop highlighting.
The mask modifier does this for example. The armature doesn’t as far as I can tell.

Hello,

just out of curiosity, why are you using 2.49b ?
