I have a character that I’m currently weight painting. Everything works perfectly except for the lips of the character which seem to be acting odd. I have them weighted 100% to the head, but whenever I rotate the head forward or backward it pulls the lips in the opposite direction. As far as I can tell, the vertices are only weighted to the head bone. Is there a way that I can see all of the weights assigned to the head bone or clear them entirely?
You can see weights by switching to weight paint mode and making the head bone vertex group the active vertex group. You can select vertices assigned to “head” by selecting head and clicking “select” from properties/data/vertex groups.
Most useful would be to inspect the weights of a particular vertex on the lip that isn’t doing what you want, by selecting it in edit and looking at vertex groups on the properties shelf (n key).
According to the properties menu, the vertices that are causing issues are connected entirely to the head. As I move it more now I’m realizing that all of the vertices that are connected to the head are pulling slightly behind - Its causing the characters eyelids to be pulled away as well, though it is a lot more subtle. The only vertices that aren’t causing a problem are the ones connected to the jaw. Could it be an issue with the head bone that is causing this?
I dunno. If you upload a file, me or somebody else could probably figure it out in two seconds.
So I actually had some other help fixing it. All I needed to do was uncheck Connected in the bone settings. Not sure why this caused the problem, but its fixed now!
