I live in MI
beautiful scenery again, great job there.
the top line shows roughly where the cloud line would be if you’re looking straight at the sun and that’s your field of view. The bottom lines are just for the horizontal shafts of light.

thx

Where were the cumulus clouds exactly and how high? You can use the circle as reference.
Did the sky got darker, the closer to the horizon it was?
When you could give me some reference images for the cloud layer that would help. After doing a quick and dirty image search it seams that there are alot different layer formations…(same for the cumulus clouds)

I can’t find a good pic online, but it was really simple. First, the cloud cover actually kinda looked like it was standing straight up not laying down, as in being like | instead of _ if I didn’t explain well enough. It went straight to the horizon, so height wasn’t really a possible thing to determine. It pretty much was a dull gray mass, though it didn’t cover the sky. It was huge enough, but it only covered the sky for a certain amount of area around the sun, so lets say if you’re looking at the sun you can see a little sky around the cloud cover. I really can’t say what type of cloud it was, sorry.
I’m not sure if the orange is the cloud or the whitish orange is… it looks more like the whiter orange is which is wrong
and also the cloud cover should cover almost all of your field of view, with just a little sky showing around the edges in view. The sun pillars look perfect now tho
Its good, but it looks like a nuke blowing up in the distance, and the shock wave pushing the clouds into a circular pattern, rather then the sun IMO.
Just draw a quick scetch with few lines and write onto (in the scetch) the lines what they represent, eg. “upper strato edge”. Sorry but i don’t have any idea how the clouds should look like :).

*kawaboom hmm the mushroom cloud is missing but i’ll fix that
(jk)
ugh I’ll do my best but I don’t have a pic editor atm I’ll try and find one online.

WOOOW!! Thats amazing! how do you do the clouds?
wow I must be explaining it bad
just a dull gray flag mass… it had only the slightest texture. And the curve in the whole cloud line should be outwards. And also it wasn’t wispy clouds, just a few “bumps” on the cloud line. But it is looking better and better
It’s actually just a white fresnel plane with a displace modifier conected to a cloud texture (plus subsurf mod with lvl6). Then light it with a sunlight under a very small angle and you’ll get something like that. When you want the clouds to have an edge just edit the plane mesh so that you look straight onto the plane at that point where you want the edge (the fresnel will fade out the plane getting only some little clouds).

We’ll see where we end with this

just bring the cloud all the way to the horizon, and remove the texture on the bottom and that just might do it!
Wasn’t there any gap? Hard to believe that you can see the sun without a little tiny gap between the horizon and the clouds.

sorry guess you’re right lol it’s been so long since then and without a pic
plus I have horrible memory. So the gap is needed, move the cloud cover just a little more “up” in a 2D sense, and make it just a teensy less curved so that the sides again in a 2D sense are closer to the “top” in relation to the middle than they are now. The pic is beautiful

the upper edge of the clouds now look weird, it seems that the edge looks too real, doesn’t it :spin:?
The cumulus clouds are really hard, when you know something how to achieve those (eg.tutorial) tell me.

sorry I can’t help you there seeing how I’m still pretty much a total noob lol. What do you mean it looks too real? Isn’t that what we want here? I’d say this image duplicates what we saw, except for of course the scenery and the sun pillar going up should fall a little short of reaching the cloud line.
The sky blue is to close to the real sky blue. I think i’ll do two images at the end one with a more real coloring and one with a more painted like coloring…
why don’t you want it real tho?
