I need your help on this one guys.
I just bought a USB 2.0 external hard drive. I’m using it for backup and to store songs. The installation of it went fine, and I was able to copy everything to it no problem. I switch it between my laptop which is running Windows XP, and my desktop which is running Win 2000. It worked fine for a week, but now everytime I try and use it on my desktop I get a “unsafe hardware removal” error, even though I didn’t unplug it! Win 2000 then reinstalls the device, waits a minute and then accuses me of unplugging it again! This goes on and on, but the thing that gets me most is that it works completely fine on my laptop still. Any ideas what is causing this error? This happens no matter what USB plug I use, I checked all connections to the drives and motherboards. I’ve completely uninstalled and reinstalled my USB drivers and the external case drivers. I was able to format it again on my laptop and still nothing helps…I’m about to throw it out the window…please help.
Thanks,
Tim
