Very unrealistic results with the Blender Internal Renderer

I know BI is not the best renderers out there but it still can produce something. I have made a spaceship in Blender 2.57 which is textured. I have been toiling to get a bit of realism in my scenes but despite of all methods, i have never succeeded. Can somebody give some advice on this? I really prefer the BI because its fast. Hi there!

It looks like you’re using too much ambient light, shadowing is poor. The material could also be better, play with the specular settings. If you post the .blend file, I’m sure experienced users could do magic with it. You don’t need to include the spaceship, just a cube would do.
