This is really neat, just saw it on digg.
this has been posted 2 times already.
It’s been posted about four or five times now… (and this is from 1999!).
well I think that’s amazing! and a really good idea!
wow
It is amazing. It’s been posted endlessly, though.
they’re called Shape Keys in Blender. look it up. It is amazing to see it before your eyes.
Actually no, they aren’t shape keys.
Well, technically they are, but blender’s shape keys don’t have a program that will automatically match to a photograph of any face that ever existed.
That’s what I was thinking, I was not impressed with the begining of the video, but the ending is amazing. Watch the whole thing.
I may add that the shape keys don’t automatically create themselves either. /;]
I would request it as a feature, but we have MakeHuman, althou if it could spit out a mesh from a picture, its awesome. If any German readers are reading this, perhaps you could contact the university and see if it is open source or something that could be added on to Blender.
Hey, we have make-human, lets just get the automagical forest gump machine thingy and we won’t even need to model or texture anything ever again!
There are people who do this. They’re called modellers.
What alex_g said. While it’s nice that those programs can do this, using it and make-human requires no skill, practical technique, or even any real imagination or dedication. It’d just open the doors for idiots to grab blender and say ‘LOO AT TEH ANGELIN JO LI PRON I MADFE’.
It has applications in other areas though, particularly facial recognition and following.
Sure but why waste time modelling every bit when a computer can do it in seconds and probably better? Sure it takes the art out of it somewhat but when it’s needed for business then I’m all for it. I can’t stand it when games designers come out with something like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the model looks nothing like the real character.
That’s the first time I’ve seen that video so thanks for posting it. If this is from 1999, why hasn’t it been implemented in programs yet?

I had to borrow a friends computer to post this reply. You see I’m still busy inventing semiconductor technology so that someday I can build my own system. God forbid that I would get my ‘idiot’ hands on something created by someone else!
Whoa, dude. Don’t resurrect dead threads. Anyway, did I call you an idiot? No. Did you miss my point? Yes, completely. Methinks you’re taking this to heart a bit much.
Please don’t bump old threads. Thanks.
