I’m in need of a new video card or help in figuring out whats wrong with mine currently.
I have the ATI 9800 Pro. an expensive card when i bought it 2 years ago.
My problem - my colors are totally off on my screen. I developed a logo for a company on a friends computer with blues and ornages. When i brought the file home, the image is now a darker blue and brown-orange.
Overall my files are darker then they really are. Any ideas on how to adjust this situation. I have tried everything that I know. The only way I get the colors even somewhat correct is when my contrast and brightness is jacked to 100 on my monitor but this is no fix.
I have the latest drivers, I’ve attempted calibrations, but nothing seems to work, my files become overall darker on my home screen. I know calibration can be a bitch, but can anyone provide advice?
Or… I know this may be the wrong solution, but I’ve hated ATI for a while and dont’ really want to throw my money away, but would another video card be a better choice? If so what do you recommend.
I don’t use Blender too often, but wish to again in the near future and mainly am in the graphic design realm (print, web, etc. )
I’m thinking the GeForce but because the brand has changed so much recently what would be an advisable purchase for my needs… Not a gamer. willing to spend good coin.
Someone help me… my oranges cant look brown… it disgusts me… and bring me nightmares.
====== In summary… a) what vid card would you buy if you were a designer?
b) any thoughts on how to get CORRECT colors from my current ATI 9800? (btw its not the monitor).
Nidia is better that ATI, thats for sure, but if you’d have a 2 year old Nvidia, you would be as pissed at Nvidia as you are at ATI right now, its the age of the card…
the geforce 2 mx has no significant issues with blender, the radeon 9800s do [admittedly on occasion, some people have no problems]
have you tried the color profile options in the display options? you can mess with all kinds of color things there… Many displays come with discs that install their own color profiles [in addition to drivers… which aren’t really necescary]
[for my last post I didn’t have enough time to read what you wrote fully]
Hey, It was a long time ago that I posted this, and I found ways around not buying a new video card and make huge color calibration adjusments to my monitor. However, the colors would still look awful and not what they should be.
That being said, income was very low for a period of time, but now I can re-invest in a vid card and a new monitor. I am in the print industry and have a lot of experience with calibrations etc. that is why I orginally posted for some help, because I was very perplexed and frustrated. So:
a) recommendations on a flat screen monitor right now? (but will not buy a samsung again)
b) recommendations on a video card right now. Still a GeForce?
I know you said not another Samsung, but I’m using the Samsung 930bf and it’s been great. I’ve had it a little over a month now and there seems to be nothing it can’t do. It’s got a 4ms response time which is excellent for games and movies, and does a really great job of reproducing color accruately. However if you really don’t want a Samsung then I’d recommend NEC, Spectre (a little on the cheap end but good), or Viewsonic. I really don’t like the sony’s as they have colors “issue’s” (black won’t look right).
As for the video card the 7800GT works great with blender and now they have it in AGP which I’m presuming you have. Just a word of caution though, if you do upgrade to PCI express and go SLI you will have problems with artifacts in blender, but it’s very easy to turn off sli also.
No Samsung??
Me, I’ve bought those “refused” by Samsung A 19" Samtron 94v one
Quite nice for the moment ( three months) and really inexpensive
Good for “poor” people
For Blender buy a Geforce ( 6200? again for “poor” people)
Bye
p.s.my previous screen was a top quality 19 " iiyama vision master pro ( too heavy, 25 kg )
