The supports were auto-generated. There still needs to be quite a few of them but, you’re right, there doesn’t need to be as many. The reason why the program generated so many is because there are lots of little islands. When I redo this, I’ll have to go back and revisit islands and support.
I agree that the computer part is too long. Believe it or not, I’ve actually shortened that down by half. I also sped up the clips to 200% speed. The problem I see is that there is too much “clicking around” with the mouse on an, otherwise, static screen. It’s boring to the uninitiated viewer and, for the interested, it goes by too fast. I think I’m going to have to go back and re-record those screencasts. I’m going to need some time to plan them out, better, next time.
I’m pleasantly surprised to see that you noticed the G-code scrolling by! I didn’t think anybody would read it, let alone get past the first few lines.
All of those interstitials and titles were generated with a bash script… basically a couple of while loops and an echo. The text comes from a text file on the hard drive. In order to change the text, all you do is edit the .txt file and re-run the bash script.
Yeah, that text was all randomly copied from various locations. I was considering whether to change some or all of that. Now that you mention it, I probably will.
You, pretty much, echoed what I was thinking:
- Tighten up the screencast parts.
- Edit the interstitials.
The only thing I was thinking of that you didn’t mention was to fix up the reveal shots at the end. They are just still photos with KB-effect. Maybe I will want to redo them with a video camera. Put the model on a turntable. Do a little pan and zoom. Ditch the KB stills.
