video for mac

Anyone suggest any certain compression for creating videos for Mac playback?

For an animation I rendered I have used divx low motion and it is near flawlessness to the naked eye. But what about for creating a .mov? I can’t seem to find any of the compressions contained in blender to have pleasing results so far :frowning:

EDIT: The MPEG-4 compression for quicktime seems to be okay, but there’s hardly any compression to it :frowning:

final quicktime mpeg4 file: 180mb
final avi divx file: 14mb

Thank you,

Though, I didn’t seem to get good results with the animation codec :frowning: I guess quicktime compression just lacks a little compared to divx?

You could try 3ivx and see how that goes. I’ve used it quite a bit and while I can’t compare it to DivX, it’s possible to get pretty good compression with acceptable results. When I use it, I control compression by entering a data rate rather than using the quality sliders (I found the sliders next-to-useless) - this advice may well apply to other codecs too.

Note also that Quicktime can play avi files but may require the free Flip4Mac plug-in. Also, Mac users can use VLC or MPlayer, both of which play a vast range of video types.
