video masking...

I know there is a fundamental paradigm issue with animating the mesh shape versus animating object positions (pushing vertex’ vs pushing empties/hooks), so Blender won’t see the inclusion of animated absolute vertex’ positions.

But really, this is the most convoluted way to achieve that goal (mask shape deform). I have had issues with hook creation and updating in 2.5 (must try again with recent build). Using the hook deform from a scene in composite nodes is a bit buggy.

I just want to draw a bezier curve in an editor (like the UV editor?) and move the vertex’s over time. Not play with hooks and empties, I find them a pain to set up and a pain to interact with.

But its not a core function :frowning:

I’m aware it doesn’t use shape keys, I did the tutorial when it came out a few years ago and again recently with 2.5 hoping to see a simplification re new animation system, algorith wrote a script shortly after the tutorial came out, for 2.48 or .49 to take some of the manual work out of it, that was the adding empties, hooks and parenting bit to every flamin curve vertice. :-), that was the script I was referring to having not been transferred over to 2.5, so the manual aspect still stands? Tedious as it was, still is?. Or does 2.5 have functionality to make it a lot easier? Cheers.

Even sticking to some roto fundementals like many small overlapping masks rather than larger complicated ones, max of about a dozen verts per mask it’s a PITA. Blenders anim system is just not designed for this sort of thing, too bad but understandable.

Absolutely right. Simple thing like morphing a curve shape over some frames.

But there is no doubt the new animation system is substantially improved compared to the old one and a lot of work has and is going into it.

Claxa is now GPL !

http://code.google.com/p/claxa/

I cant find any info about this (Claxa) app. so if its to good to be true it probably is. I am guessing that it is a virus. Can anyone prove me wrong?

Premise:
I’m not involving at all in this project and I haven’t found any info about Claxa becoming open source…

The link is a google code project on which you find the executable (I checked it with Avast and it seems virus free) and also a source tree that looks like the real application source code (I haven’t tried to compile it)
The Claxa offical site seems broken (http://www.patchmaker.net/enu/Claxa/index.html)…

For info. Creating a garbage matte with animated curves from a blender demo at Siggraph 2006

I found hooks on curves tend to crash a bit on 2.5 at the moment too. And they update in a strange manner (there is lag as you must leave the frame

Did you try my Rotoscoping and Garbage Painting kit ?

It is ready to use and allows both Rotoscoping and Painting on frames :

It has been done with Blender 2.48a, but works fine with 2.49b.

Roubal, that is cool thankyou. But I cannot go back now, 2.49 while stabil is just to clunky to use after 2.5. I have been doing something similar actually but find that the redraws dont work quite right in 2.5.

I think it’s funny 3DRyley’s message says “there is no such thing as ‘to much detail’”–one detail overlooked: it’s spelled “too.”
