I work for ibiblio.org (coincidentally, we help out with hosting blenderart.org). I’m starting out on a blog in which I hope to cover a lot of topics relating to producing digital video using Linux and Free/Libre Open Source Software. It’s not got much to do with Blender, though the sequence editor earned Blender a mention recently. One of our goals is to move at least part of our in-house video production to a FLOSS model and generate a lot of much-needed documentation along the way.
I’d love to get some feedback, ideas for what people need/want to know, or even content if you happen to be a Linux-savvy video ninja who’s in a sharing mood.
I do a fair amount of video in linux… primarily in kino and cinelerra. Your blog is definitely interesting. Pop me a PM or email at some point. I’d be interested in talking with you more.
It’s a good start. I’d reccomend taking a look at the latest KdenLive, which is just reaching maturity. I use Kino & Cinelerra, but Kdenlive is pretty much exactly in between those too on the “ease of use vs. functionality” chart. A bonus is that the program integrates well with external editors (such as Gimp and Audacity,) so that a lot of its power can come from using those tools alongside it.
I’m a professional video editor (I use Windows at work, and I’ve never met another Linux user in my field,) and I usually use Cinelerra when at home, but Kdenlive is really a nicely balanced program with a bright future.
