Videotrace - modelling on the go using video

Hey everyone,

just found out about this. Might be old, sorry if it is, but it’s really interesting:

check the video, it’s quite self-explanatory

That’s awesome!
Seeing the end result was pretty cool. Although like most promo videos, it is just that, a promo video. A professional has rehearsed the video time a time again, so that it looks super easy.

But imagine trying to do something like that but of a human being instead of the car. :S It could get quite complicated. Also it looks like it would be perfect for pre-vis stuff, but for a client that wants a high poly extremely detailed mesh, not so much.

It definitely has a lot of potential, and it would come in handy for architectural renders. I’m amazed at the amount of handy 3d programs being released these days. We’ll be out of a job soon! Good find

Amazing indeed, and “covered by two patent applications” in the US and Australia… so the technique is probably off-limits for implementation in open-source projects :frowning:
Software patents really scare me…

what , patented? I 've seen similar techniques years ago on other videos. But still, this is great.
