Viewport navigation during command execution

One major bummer for me is that I cannot navigate the view while executing a command. This pertains to both mouse input and 3D mouse input (NDOF). Is there a way around this?

This is not possible yet but it is in the Blender roadmap.

By the way, if you are writing your own operators you could return a PASS_THROUGH for certain hotkeys or inputs to make this possible.

It’s good to know that this is going to be addressed!
