Someone please help, my computer PHYSICALLY cannot handle actual rendering so I have to resort to viewport renders, but now they’re breaking and I don’t know why and without them I can’t continue to work on my projects!
This was a shot from right before on the video it started breaking beyond recognition:
I really want to be able to continue making animations, and this is going to be a massive issue if I can’t fix it, I unfortunately couldn’t really find anything on just Google searches so please help
Is yor GPU able to handle the scene properly? Isn’t the VRM completely full? Did you close any other applications while working with Blender? Did you try to reopen your scene? Does this problem happen with other files now or just this scene?
I knew there must be some reason most of us work with at least average priced computers newer than 10 years old. The bar is not high at all. You can get a used Nvidia GTX1080TI for less than 200 euros and it will render most stuff just fine. There is also https://www.sheepit-renderfarm.com/
You may have to stick with an older version of blender. What version are you using?
At least consider getting some more RAM - and make sure its all the same. Mixed RAM only works at the level of the worst stick, so dont mix low and high quality…
So what optimizing have you done for the scene?
Put all the buildings in the distance in a separate scene. Render them out on their own and use the compositor to add them back in behind the foreground.
I assume you can do the same with the ceiling and the yellow strip. Possibly even right down to just above the arches.
Do the same with the tree if nothing is interacting with it.
Is the camera moving? If it is still than the ceiling and background buildings can each be rendered as one frame, and that one frame added in the compositor for the entire animation. There is no need to re-render 100’s of identical frames.
Check which collections are turned on (if you have them). I have noticed I accidentally tap the numbers above the keyboard - which is a hotkey to only view that collection.
Or have you done something in the compositor that makes it now only show part of the scene ?
1: probably not my computer is like 5 years old, it was on clearance and it’s an all in one PC. I’ve been trying to save for a new computer for years
2: No other applications, I think it happened bc my computer went into sleep mode for a second while rendering!
This problem has happened before, but it went away a little while after as it did with this… Always a heart attack when it happens tho.
Thank you for your advice
I sincerely hope that the problem is only temporary. What operating system do you use? Have you tried to have a dual boot with a system that uses less resources?
The renderfarm thing is interesting, as for the Nvidia my situation is unfortunately very restrictive price wise and I mean down to the bone, my parents as well are very unknowledgeable on computers, they don’t TRUST custom builds, they don’t want to do any work on computers, or have me do any work on computers to my dismay as it’s “dangerous” so I can’t take out or add in any parts that aren’t already in my all in one
I’ve wanted more ram for the LONGEST time, I have a memory of 3.7 and it can barely run games on say Roblox
The optimization stuff is cool, that is a great idea having them be just a single frame then using the compositor, it would be a good way as well to learn how it all works! The camera moves but only after a certain amount of time, all the collections were turned on, it was my computer being freaky I just turned it off then back on again and it worked! Weird
So have you checked the hardware?
Loose RAM, bent cables with broken wires inside. It may be good to run fdisk and see how the hard drive is doing. There is something similar I used to run to check the memory modules. Have not had windows for several years and are forgetting all the babysitting stuff I had to do…
Ahh yes - turn off and on and problems go away… It must be related to my laptop.
Do learn more optimizing… Pre render as much as possible. Where the moving characters are have low poly mesh as the shadow catcher so it looks like they are interacting with the scene. Even limiting the distance the camera can see to just beyond what is in the scene will help. Its pointless having the camera checking 2 kms away if everything is no further than 30 meters.
