I have decided to step back from the UDK for a couple weeks/months to learn an easier engine and I thought that actually finishing learning blender will help.
So I have decided to make a game for my girlfriend and eventually release it to you guys.
So the game follows the story of mecha-biped Vn.1, or Vini, on his quest to find out where he came from. The game takes you all the way from a rundown junkyard to a futuristic robot factory run by sadistic robots.
All the screenshots that I am posting today are VERY early stages, like placeholders for placeholders. So not too harsh of judgment please.
The only one that is textured is the mushroom. I am working on rigging and animating Vini. When I am finished with that I will try to upload a video of them for you guys. The animations will be minimal, consisting of a walk, run, jump, crawl, and push. Hopefully I will have a gameplay demo in the next few weeks.
I am having trouble with the rigging.
First, no matter what I do, blender never wants to do weight paint on vini. It is fine with every other model, just not vini for some reason. Does anyone know why blender will randomly be pissy like that?
Second, I know how to move the armatures once I am done rigging but I don’t know how to make them a standalone animation. Do I use action editor?
Please someone help me. If not for me, for my pretty girlfriend who’s hopes I have gotten up by telling her I would be able to make this game.
You probably aren’t selecting the correct faces, or the faces belong to a different object. Make sure all faces for Vini are in the same object.
Yes, you use the action editor (though I would recommend the Animation screen). Press the I-key to make a keyframe (rotation, and location for the root bone), move the current frame, and repeat. It will all belong to a single action - name the action and use the Action actuator on the armature object to run the animation.
I made sure it was all one object and I have the armature modifier on but when I go to weight paint it starts acting crazy. Sometimes it won’t paint at all while other times it will start to work and then not allow me do do much. The craziest thing it has done is make blender go into a negative looking color scheme then crash. I am using 2.49b, do you think if I convert to 2.56 I will have more success?
