replies either “no items” when files are there or renames them as “quit.blend” for some reason or says “Permission denied.” when I attempt to access files. All I’m trying to do is one simple edit on a short video (whimper)

THANKS! No, really, it was that simple. I tried to upload one video, first direct from a SanDisk SDHC card (MTS) and then after having it transferred to a more permanent file. This is my first time using Blender and I have NO KNOWLEDGE and no experience with Python, either. (Didn’t expect that…) I thought this would be cut and dry. Click click, you know? All I want to do is cut the last two seconds off a 46 second video. Then getting all those different “replies” with each attempt. The one I least understand is the “permission denied” although I also don’t understand why Blender is “renaming” the files “quit.blend”. I can’t seem to locate a means to get a screenshot while Blender is open. Perhaps you can tell me how to do that as well?
Well, sorry but that’s not super clear either even if that helps a bit.
You are very likely to do something wrong but without all the exact steps you do it’s impossible for me to figure out what the problem is…
Anyway, if it’s just about doing basic editing, why bother with blender ?
I suggest you use a dedicated software for that, for instance Shotcut is simple and capable, but I’m sure there are other options out there as well.
Blender is primarily a 3D software, indeed it has editing capability but it’s more a secondary tool meant to work with the 3D animation you produce with blender.
On the overall Blender isn’t something you can just jump into and figure out stuff intuitively unless you have a lot of experience with 3D software. If you really want to stick with it, the first thing to do is to look for a tutorial about video editing with it.
That said, Shotcut is very likely to be more intuitive and simpler to use right away especially if you already used editing software before.

Not to be a gatekeeper, but it sounds like you’ve made little to no attempt to read the manual, watch some tutorials, or learn how the software works.
It’s fine to be new to blender, but you’re going to face a long hard road if you just click and drag things without regard to knowing what you’re doing, and just hoping it all works out.
And if cutting a few seconds off the end of a video track is all you need to do, there are much easier consumer-style software options out there to do this with.
