Many people switch to linux because it is free but one of the main reasons I did is because of the intense use of spyware in so many places including Microsofts Windows “Find Fast” utility. It just bums me out when someone takes liberties with my personal property without so much as asking. GREED is behind it all and the thought of using my demographic info to further manipulate people into the clutches of a reckless violator of privacy urks me also. Please excuse the domain name following , (I’m not wanting to start a flame war) but the article is extremely informative for anyone concerned about spyware and hidden MS files.

I have often wondered if Blender had a hidden agenda but I haven’t heard a word about such tactics here.
PS I still do use Windows for some things but it is very limited. Mainly my wife prefers to use it. I’m not trying to down anyone using windows, just wanting to be helpful to the concerned.
I’m not sure where I got it, but I suspect from a download. I don’t think Blender is responsible, but something in that guys thread seems to have set it off. Were I an admin, I would check that thread for any imbedded nasties that might be lurking within.
ok for about 1hour now elysiun is getting weirdo…I made a search and I found NewDotInstaller.exe on my comp…deleted it…and elysiun is still weirdo…any ideas?
I would definitely try AdAware X-Warrior. Good luck. Its a pain in the butt to get rid of newdotnet. It took me about two hours.
And don’t use Internet Explorer ever ever again.

well I downloaded ad-aware…it founds alot of “files” and it put them into quaratain…but it’s still doing weirdo things to elysiun and other forums…anyone have ideas?

I believe I have the IP address for the download blocked in my hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) so I am immune to it. Note: That file has no extension. Do some reading about it on the net and you’ll love what it does.

Good call on the adaware, desoto. I found a bunch of nasties, including savenow and weathercast, which are now history. 
I would like to report that since having utilized adaware as desoto suggested, my machine is running faster and more smoothly than prior to using it, and noticably so, not just gauging from the performance monitor. Thanks again for the tip.

I’ve been using IE since 2.0 and I’ve never ever once had a problem with it, with the exception of the time that I installed Tweak UI with IE 3.0, and the two conflicted.
