Visible cut when dividing a mesh into pieces

Hi,

I’m new to the forum and relatively new to Blender. I have a very simple mesh that I divided by separating it in different objects (with “P”). My problem is that i can see the borders of the new different objects. Can that be fixed somehow or is it just the way it is?

I tried to find something about this, but no luck. I hope you can help me

So you separated it into separate objects and now it looks like separate objects and that’s not what you want?

Perhaps you’d like to tell why you want to separate them ?

Anyway, the reason why it looks like that is because vertex normals on those edges now point to different directions and that cuts the shading. There are no tools in Blender that would allow you to adjust those so that the shading would make them look like uniform mesh again.

If you join them back to one object (ctrl+J), it’s possible to temporarily make them look like connected mesh with this:

If you try it, note that

  • cut edges have to be marked as sharp (ctrl+E -> mark as sharp)
  • if you then switch modes, Blender automatically adjusts vertex normals and it will again look like that
  • if it breaks Blender or your computer, you can keep all the pieces.
