Visual Error/Glitch

I hadn’t used blender in a long time, and when I decided to do so recently, I keep getting an annoying glitch:

It happens any time I move the cursor pretty much. Everything still works otherwise, it’s just the visual stuff. It’s really annoying when I’m selecting verts, and they appear to stay pink when they are really selected. It fixes itself if I simply click elsewhere.

I downloaded blender again and reinstalled it, but no luck. Maybe it’s just my computer, but blender’s the only place it happens.

I use Windows XP if that’s any help.

This is most likely a video-card driver or display setting problem. What video card, drivers for that, and display settings do you have?

Search for posts by z3r0 d, who seems to have a lot of experience in solving these matters.

Definitely OGL related.

Are you a gamer? Is your rig tuned up for max framerate? Slow down. Tearing artifacts like that can come from anything from overclocking your GPU to just pushing the performance settings, to doing nothing besides installing a buggy driver. Sometimes it’s as simple as turning on Vsync. Sometimes.

Thanks for the replies.

I tried several different things, but still no luck. I don’t understand most of what you’re talking about, but I found some info that might be what you want. Yeah, my computer’s ancient.

What’s Vsync? Any more suggestions?

Thanks again…

go into the mouse properties in the control panel and turn off the cursor shadow [it’s on the pointers tab]

also, you might try 16 bit color mode instead of 24

Tried both, and neither worked.

Well, that’s not all that helpful. Says nothing about the chip but I assume it’s an on-board Intel VGA chipset?

Unless it’s a known issue, we’re just guessing anyway. So while you’re hoping for an answer; try downloading and installing the most recent video and mouse drivers available, as well as reinstalling DirectX… and running the OpenGL tests afterward.
