Volume behaviours

i am trying to create a cloud scape. When i create a plane with some bumps and applied principled volume .Tried rendering in cycles. but got the weird out like below…Help needed.

Hi all,
I have found the solution.The volume works with volumetric primitives. Since the plane doesn’t have volume, it renders like this. so extrude the plane and give some thickness-will work.
