Volume Render in 2.5...

well i’ll try with the cyrius type this week and see if i can get something like it

is the latest script in first post ?

i got version 413 is this ok

Thanks

Here is the latest for use with 28413 and newer, there are no aesthetic changes, just python api and modifier application improvements so if you already have a script working in an older version of blender that enables turbulence then don’t bother with this one. I look forward to your clouds!

Hi guys, do you know if there is any way to invert the turbulence on the point density map? And if there is no way then that is something we really need.

Dannybear,

what do you mean by invert the turbulence, like make the white parts black and black to white?

Yes exactly, Just make parts that are being pushed in get pushed out. like with the voronoi instead of making holes it would make bulges.

I think this can be done with the node editor. I’m not too familiar with it. but it has a color inverter, so it would work well with a B&W image.

I agree, however, there should be a simple check box to invert the image. You should submit this as an official request.

Dannybear,

First of all, I’m assuming you are working with 2.5.

On the texture Panel, there is a sub panel called “influence” a the bottom of that is a checkbox called “negative”

That should do the trick.

No that does not really work because that inverts everything including the point density.

I agree dannybear, the turbulence panel is the future of volumetrics. I would really like to be able apply a texture to the ramp or radius rather than just turbulence to the entire particle. That would allow the edges or falloff of the particle to be defined by a texture rather than affecting the entire volume. I would also like to be able to randomize the radius. Well I can wish can’t I? I am enjoy learning what is there though.

One suggestion for your problem though might be to subtract the negative of the point density from another texture, This negates the summing affect of the particles you are looking for, but it’s the closest to what you’re looking for right now that I know of.

Modification coming for the cloud script.

So per the previous page comments I modified the cloud script. It now increases the point density radius as the size of the cloud increases and doesn’t put quite so many particles in the larger clouds. This really saves time when generating the cloud and makes the larger clouds look better to boot. Both of the clouds in this picture were created from the script without modification in any way. The cloud on the left is the default blender cube for scale.

Hopefully these changes will make it into a build of blender soon

Great improvement there. I notice that the material clips at the volume boundary (most notable on the top and bottom). Can I resize (increase) the volume without ruining the material to render?

You can edit the bound box to any shape or size you want, just do it in edit mode so it doesn’t effect the scale of the box and cause the volume to stretch. I have an increase box size by .2 as a default in the script and I will increase that for the next revision… thanks.

just an idea here
for the latest script can you add a var so that we can size the box with a slider may be

might be easier to size it !

salutations

I think I will calculate the box size to point volume plus the radius of the point densities to gaurantee no clipping. If you can’t tell, I’m not a big fan of sliders and buttons. At some point I will put a selector for different types of clouds, but I really want this thing to be minimalistic.

It gives really nice base clouds to tweak as wanted.

Thx a lot.

LOVE IT Delic. Very nice render.

You’re welcome.

Sometimes you just start messing around for fun… that’s the point right?

Blender is a lot of fun …

Yeah I keep getting great effects from playing with the sky settings then forget to save the renders before tweaking more, maybe I should screen record all the playing…

where is the link to download the script??
