Volumetric hair in Blender: a Makehuman test

This is only a quick test: I’ve used a “tuft” to
fake volumetric hair on Makehuman default head.
A single tuft is a very low poly model: in this examples
I’ve used a subsurf…

very nice looking hair, any chance you want to share the technique, hair always looks bad when I do it.

Great hair man! It looks like very very fine hair, very thin strands. At the edges of the hair, where it is thinest, it looks sort of blurry/fuzzy. can’t distinguish the individual hairs. of course, that’s probably because you didn’t model the individual hairs… or did you? I’d be interested to know how you did it because I’ve been looking for a way to make a shorter, coarser, animal-like hair. unless you think the same trick would not work.

just a quick question: how did you do it??? :o :o :o :o :o /5

:o

That is the best hair I have ever seen done in Blender! Very cool! I also strongly agree that you should share your technique…please?

I’m usually too lazy to make realistic looking hair, so when I have to make hair, I just toss a squashed sphere onto the character’s head and it looks like a solid, shiny afro. :stuck_out_tongue: Sure it looks horrible, but it works…

Thx…
I can write a little tutorial on MakeHuman site…

Because the tuft is very easy to link to armature system,
my hope is to use armature and the next physics
engine in Blender (ODE?) to simulate the gravity and
wind effect…

Nice!

I’d bet that some tweaking, expecially on the hair end will lead to even better results

Very good, Manuel!

very very cool hair! The only thing i can crit is the hair ends. You can see the tuft-form there…

It’s true…but it can be solved by good textures,
or squeezing the end of tuft …

Looks good, but like they said the hair strands seem to fine almost babylike  I would make them thicker and a bit less see through. Or even a few diffrent kinds of hair prob bout 10 kinds

This is very impressive method of doing hair. Looking forward to your tutorial. I think with adjustments in textures you could get nice hair for whatever you wanted, male female etc. Well done.
