Volunteer needed for Simple Fountain Pen for 3D Printing

Hi guys,

I need someone that can change a model I found on Thingiverse for a fountain pen:
It is simply called Fountain Pen V1.0

Someone built this and its only made for a #4 size nib unit.

The file needs modification (the file is a .stl file and the output needs to be a .stl so that we can 3D Print it).
It needs to be modified to be able to accomodate a #6 size nib unit.

A #6 nib needs to fit; like so…

Reason for doing this work: a #6 nib is kind of the universal standard the fountain pen community has settled on and makes replacement of units very easy.

So its a simple task where you take the .stl’s from that website and scale/modify the 3 components so that it can accommodate this nib unit in it.

Key notes: The pitch of the threads is important for proper assembly. #6 housing threads are 7.5mm x .5mm.

Nice to Haves if you are willing to!

  1. since the barrel is cylindrical it is easy to roll off a table. If the barrel of the pen can be made Hexagonal or Octagonal it will be an improvement so a pen doesn’t roll off.

  2. Printing with plastics tends to have a very slippery feeling to the grip section. Elongating the grip section and having some grooves or dimples for better grip would be an improvement.

  3. Somehow incorporating a clip into the cap design that can be 3D printed. This person has done a good job of doing it.

Success is defined by being able to 3D Print the pen with PLA/ABS that is readily available to the community. Also something that we can upload to Thingiverse to share with the world. I think whoever volunteers and helps do this, their work will be recognized because the fountain pen community is a pretty large group of people and I think this will benefit your portfolio. Full credit will be given to the volunteer(s).

REASON FOR DOING THIS:
My motive for simply doing this is to be able to provide a median for consumers to be able to enjoy fountain pens at any price bracket, so that they can 3D print their own pens, and then just need to purchase a nib unit to be able to enjoy this hobby. This is not to make a profit. The reason for this has come about simply because there are a few people who have created models but are not wanting to share them with the world and wanting to profit by 3D printing and selling their pens. I think that is fine, but I also want files to be available to the public so that they can 3D Print their own pens.

Please let me know how I can be of help, to guide this along. I have a 3D Printer and we can do iterative steps to see what works and what doesn’t and am with you 100% of the way. If need be, really need be, and you want compensation. To be honest we can talk about it just to expedite things along.

So how about it? lets start with the .stl from Thingiverse and modify it into an awesome open source ‘libre’ pen.

Cheers

Hello, I could be of some service to you. I create 3D models and send a few of them for 3D printing with PLA/ABS, powder, and laser. As long as I can get the information, I can create and export any model for 3D printing. Let me know what else you need.

Talk to you soon!

Hey thanks buddy, lets connect here I sent you a PM.

Anyone else? the more the merrier - the faster the project could be complete! Thanks in advance everyone.
