This is a little render I made. Any thought on it?
Cool!
My thoughts:
- the plate seems infinitely thin
- the reflection is too blown out
- there’s no focal point or story
- the original record’s etchings weren’t black
- everything feels too saturated
Good luck
Thanks!
I made some modifications
- I added a fill light so we are able to see the side of the plate (a little ;).
- I have done some post processing so the reflection isn’t too blownt out.
- As for the etching, there is already color in them (see my material node below). The problem is from this angle
we can’t see it
Is there a way to add color on the side of the displacement (it only works on the bottom part of the displacement
.) - For the saturation, went back to Default in the color management, RRT is too intense
Finally, as for the story, the golden record is part of a Voyager model that I am currently making. So the complete story is still to come

What is the bright/contr node doing? I’m not sure about that shader - color - shader interaction.
I tried to brighten the material inside the displacement (etching). Sadly, it didn’t affect at all the material. (so you can forget about it, it does nothing
