VRML Import

Hi

I am trying to import a VRML model into Blender and I am experiencing a few difficulties.

The model itself imports fine - however if I try and make the faces “smooth” shaded - nothing happens - and if I apply the subdivision surfaces modifier with the Catmull setting - the mesh gets peppered with holes.

It looks like all of the faces/edges/vertices that make up the triangles of the mesh are separate entities in their own right.

Is there any way to merge coincident edges/vertices to make this model a solid?

You would remove doubles with W / remove doubles, then adjusting the merge threshold in the toolshelf if neccessary. Because you haven’t supplied any particular example of your issue only a vague answer is possible.
