I need help about importing vrml with blender2.28
I use often wings3d, and then I want to export my models in vml to blender2.28; but, when blender try to open my vrml file, it say ‘wrong file type’.
The VRML 2 format has been broken in Blender since post 2.25 version.
You will need to get 2.25, open the VRML file, save as blend file and then open again in newer versions.

It could also be due to this: When importing a mesh, use F1. The inclination is to use Shift F1, which will I believe give you the error.
