Would be cool to have a Render Effect strip. So that we could preview effects in real time (after generating). But not having to render a section of the timeline out and re-import it.
Why not use the proxy function on a neutral adjustment strip?
The idea is that, you compile some effects that don’t play back to well, then add an adjustment strip on top. It has a proxy button just like the media strips, but when it is generated the contents are made from the media below it on the timeline. I would suggest that a 100% full res version is made first then some proxy size versions could be copied from that master.
For it to be useful, the Render Effect strip would need to know where it is in the timeline and what is below it, so if any parameters change then the proxy is auto-deleted.
An adjustment strip or render effect strip would be a great idea. If there was a generate proxy button on individual effect strips, it could have the potential for getting a bit messy I suppose.
As long as there is a delete proxy (or temp render) button. So that you can remove the render when neccassary. I have been rendering temp strips in my latest project, just to see real time playback. And I think that you can manage it manually ok.
If it is to hard to apply to all strips then at least a single Render Strip effect strip would be of most help.
Playing around with the adjustment layer and it is quite an elegant way of controlling selected areas of the timeline. Just for use in selective proxy generation of parts of the sequence, it would be really useful if there was a button on the effect strip.
Yep, and Build Proxy is almost all the way there. It renders in the background and replaces a strip at many resolutions. It just needs a delete proxy button and have access to the material below (like a timeline render). As currently it only regenerates a source file.
I was wondering how to do all this as a command line render via another instance of Blender running in the background. But you still have to import and place the resulting file.
