Walkcycle: Realistic looking linear distance, no sliding?

How to get a walk cycle look realistic in the distance it travles with out sliding ?

New to walkcycles, dont have access to blender right now or i would try this…

Would the following work ?

When standing/posed with both feet togeather there is a 2.5" distance from the first foot/step to both feet togeather (guess this would be a 1/2 step pose).

30 frames for walkcycle.
10" ‘traveled’ (walking in place) for full cycle.
5" from start pose to first step then 5" for second step to complete the cycle.
Two full steps where taken.
Save that to NLA entry.

Heading to a timeline and keyframed over 120 frames and moving a total distance of 40", 8 steps should be taken and it should look pretty realistic with out any slidding, right… maybe ?

That would be a strait line, i know adding turns and walking a radius will add to it.

Im trying to get it as close to realistic with “theory” then tweek it after.

Thanks…

You should just do a walk cycle first ( Just on the spot ) and then you can move the Character according to his walk cycle.
Here is a link to a Topic where we discuss the Same:

Hope this helps.

Yip, follow that, but for the part of moving the character accordingly, im trying to add alittle theory to it. Want a walking in place walkcycle saved in NLA editor and then move that along a path, which as of now im guessing at, would like to get alittle more “scientific”

Thanks for the link.
