I’ve only ever made images that are suitable for use as desktop wallpapers, so I thought I’d submit one to see what you thought of it.

It’s nice but it’s a bit too plain for my taste. You culd try to highlight some areas of your wallpaper so as to create a better contrast. It’s nicely excecuted though. I wonder how you modeled it. Especially that complex symbol in the centre of your picture.

yeah, very nice. i would think about maybe a few renders with different colors though (i dont particularly like that color 
). maybe you could use some particle effects or a lamp with the volumetric effect (i forget what its called) so there would be a cool aura coming out of the shapes, if you get what im trying to say.
Yeah, I’d thought about atmospheric effects similar to the ones you mentioned, but for wallpaper purposes, chose to keep it plain.
I modelled it by plucking a reference picture from Google, and replicating it with curves in Blender. I changed the curves to meshes, and created/deleted the faces as and where appropriate.
