Wallpaper robot *new pics on pg2*

As you can probably tell from the pose this character is going to eventually be rigged and animated. I started him today and have only spent two hours on him. I’m going to add some more detail and a more complicated texture.
Rendered with Blender Internal and of course Ambient Oclussion
He was inspired by the short little yellow robot whos pic was floating around the forums for awhile and i believe made it to THE Blender Gallery, unfortunately the artists name is escaping my mind at the moment, but i’m sure somebody knows what i’m talking about. as usual absolutely any thoughts, comment, or crits are welcome.
PS. The pic makes an excellent wallpaper.

A very good robot. His pose looks like the pre-rigging pose, which I wouldn’t really want to have on my desktop. :stuck_out_tongue: .

The only problem I see other than the pose is that the blend texture on the floor repeats, which is most obvious on the left. See the “stripes”?

edit: Oh, right… way too much empty space. He’s like a 20th of the image.

soldier, i hate to brake it to you but there is no blend texture. i deffinetly see how it would appear that way,but i’m not too sure what causes those funky stripes, maybe something to do with my lamp? or the number of passes? or osa? anyone know? i’ll fiddle with my settings, i’ve noticed the same prob. on other and often worse computers when rendering something simple with a normal lamp over a grey floor.
i agree about the too small and will move the camera a bit closer, but the point of the space is so that you have soemwhere to put your icons and still have some blank space in the middle to keep things balanced.
i’ll post a new pic tommorow afternoon if i can, but my end of term report for physics is due tuesday, so i might not have time

There’s no need to try to sound condescending…

I don’t know what’s causing it then.

I understand the need for icon space but that seems a bit excessive. I guess it depends on your desktop though.

You didn’t reply about the pose, I hope you plan to change it.

the term is banding… the dither controls in render settings will get rid of it, use only as much as necessary.

compressing the image will bring the bands back, i promise.

your browser may also be compressing or resizing the image so be sure you are viewing the full image and not a browser resized version.

(for this situation anyway)

lucid:thanks alot for the info. i believe that it’s the image hosting i’musing that is compressing the pic.
theonesoldier:i didn’t think a reply was necessary for the pose, as i said at the beggining he’s going to eventually be rigged, and as you did notice he is in the prerigging pose, which is where he’ll have to stay until he’s done and rigged.then once he’s ready to go i’ll make him a little more relaxed.

onesoldier, sorry for the apparently hostile response, i was just under a little pressure cause of work i had to do, well here’s an update with the robot now rigged with my own armature that only took 10/20 min useing the new extremely simple 2.4 automatic IK.
my idea for the animation is to have the robot come into the shot pulling really hard on a string, he’ll be strugelling and sliping and the blender logo will slide into the scene. apart from the rope it’ll be just like what you see in this pic, as far as what i need modeled. i’m keeping the background black and no floor because it speeds up render times and is good for contrast.

It looks cool and I like your pose, but there are some visible edges on the letters… But thats the only thing I can think of right now… good work

all I can say is: it’s my wallpaper right now. I look forward to new versions

CornDog, thanks alot, heres a new version, relatively simple changes took no effort, but hey whatever:

The image links appear broken for me right now…

i see them all
good job  !

Okay, sorry, I thought you meant you were just rigging him for the animation. I meant you should fix the pose for that particular image too if you planned to use it as a desktop. Regardless, you’ve changed the pose and it looks awesome.

Sorry for being wrong about the banding thing, I’ve never noticed that before. In fact, I’ve been seeing a lot of new rendering artifacts in other people’s work lately. I haven’t had any problems myself but most of my stuff is fairly simple.

No problem, it happens. I know I’ve done it before.

The shot of him lying on the Blender logo looks great. I’ll add it to my wallpaper list. The two robots holding the text is good too, but I personally prefer the lying one, the pose is more “dynamic” or whatever.

My only crit is the individual edges of the round parts of the text are visible (and they need setsmooth), not a big deal and I didn’t notice it at first. Still looks great.

it’s been along time since an update on this guy, not to much has changed in the model, but this pic is meant to show the diversity of the robot.
anybody have suggestions for what i should add to him? maybe a gadget or something he needs? any sugestions on types of textures to use?

looking great!
keep it up

it’s all getting better
i think you can start with a animation now

It’s been a while, and i’m starved for a creative animation idea, so i spent an hour and came up with a side-kick dog, here’s an angle shot and then a front and side view. comments crit on the dog or ideas for an animation are more than welcome.

Thanks AniCator, i hadn’t noticed that, i decided i’d give it a more angular look, heres a re-render of that section:

looks mutch better!
