Want animated camera to point always at one object

Hey,

I am playing w/ animated cameras and was wondering how I could always focus the camera in one direction - no matter where it is on an animated path. Say, if I am animating a camera to travel around a table, to always focus on the table. Is it something to do w/ empties?

Add empty to the point you want your camera to track, then select Camera, press shift and select the empty and press Ctrl-T (make track)… you might need to parent the Camera to the Empty first, I’m not sure

Cheers for that.

You don’t need to do any parenting. Ctrl-t is enough.

You may, however, need to select the camera and press Alt-r to remove it’s rotation and make it point correctly.

Hey, Blender 2.28 is out!! Update your methods!!

Select the Camera and add a Constraint ( press the Chain icon in the icons bar to get the buttons)
When you press the only button available- ADD, you get the “Track to” window.
Enter the name of the object you want to track.
You can add as many as you want, and play with influence and use the IPO curves
Bye

You guys are great! That was exactly what I was looking for.

Is it possible to move a point of a bezier curve to a different axis? Say, to bend from the “X” axis to the “Z” axis. I would like the camera to animate around the top and bottom of a word then end up focused looking straight at the front of the word. I guess I could always animated the word to rotate to meet the camera. What do you think?

Not a problem. Just select the curve, got to the Edit buttons (F9) and select “3D”.

Great!

Not forgetting to use ‘t’ on a point in edit to tilt the path so the camera can bank.

How does the tilt function work? I tried it on a path and didn’t notice much happening until I rendered the image. The object was no longer in the camera focus…Hmmmm.

Try selecting the camera and turning the PowerTrack option on (in the Animation Buttons window F7).
