Warp-in effect?

I’m working on deforming a ship like in the warp in sequence, using a lattice and a ship I downloaded from star trek blender.

I was wondering how to do the light effect thing, as shown here.



For wave deform of a ship directly you can use the wave modifier.

For the rest of the effect I advise particles and procedural textures with location IPO’s.

There has been a normal map and refract node for the compositor posted in the patch tracker before that go together too.
