Watch Box

Well, Nathan I believe made a joke by posting a fake image here: https://blenderartists.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26657&start=15 and I am going to achieve the photorealism using a real render that his fake image has…in other words Im making a photrealistic watch box. Sense this is a work in progress I have alot of work to do  But im hoping when Im through you will be asking me for a wire frame because its so unbelievable, lol.

What I have started with:

Any acknowledgement would be great, I will soon post the greaves that I have modeled along the bordered edges. And then I will work on the lock and the materials and be finished.

Ha LOL you beat me to it, I was going to do the same.

Ken

Its ok your started posting while most were logged off, its startin to look good but the chrome needs to be alot less brownish

Ha LOL you beat me to it, I was going to do the same.

Looking good so far, can’t wait to see the finnished model

Ken

The browness is do to reflections I do believe :expressionless: I will try and work on it, right now I have started the greaves and after that I will do the lock and finally finish tweaking the materials.

Grrr, I decided not to do them because they cause technical problems when rendering, so now I will start on the lock

Does anyone happen to know the name of that lock up there? I can’t find any reference photos…

Nevermind, its a latch…awkward name…

Okay here is the latch, now I need to tweak the materials and such. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could soften the shadow without using a bunch of lamps…any ideas? I havn’t tweaked the materials yet but if you have any C&C its very welcome.

anyone?

Don’t forget the grooves in the alluminium strips… I think you’re doing a great job by the way …

Thankyou! I was going to do them, but I did like the top half and the render came out all wrong. It showed those messed up black spots that you get when the normals were flipped, but it had nothing to do with the normals and I couldn’t figure out how to fix it, so I took the groves out :expressionless:

it’s starting to look great!

Awesome, it’s really almost the same as the photo, great job. Now the light reflection from the iron to the floor will be the hardest part.

Thank you, hopefully it will look better, taking a break…waiting for a few replies.

Yeah, for the caustics I was just thinking I could use halos using the cloud texture and the colorband options, should work well I hope.

About the shadows, what about area lights, and/or Ambient occlusion?

It’s looking good
