Hey, just finished this high-res water animation, please tell what you think and any suggestions on what I can do to make it look more realistic. One thing I have noticed myself is the way the water hits the sides of the domain and slowly drips down which sometimes doesn’t look 100% realistic. Anything else? Here is the video link and a still. Youtube squeezed the animation horizontally but you can see the original aspect ratio in the still.
Really great!!
Well done.
Lookin’ good! What’s the domain resolution?
Domain resolution is X: 60.0, Y: 7.5, Z: 35.0, 'twas quite large. Baked at 350 final resolution and 100 preview resolution.
Big domain, what system? How much memory did it chew and how long for the bake? Good job.
It’s a custom built system. Intel Core2 Quad q6600 processor, 2 gigs of ram, 8800gt graphics card (512MB video ram.) I don’t know if the graphics card helps or not, I still don’t know exactly where Blender draws its power from for each task. The 350 resolution bake took 302.94 MB I guess (just reopened the .blend and set up the bake again.) The total bake time I’m not exactly sure about, I usually let stuff like that sit for a few hours while I go do stuff, but I think it was around 2 hours, maybe a little longer. Same thing with the render, let it go overnight, but the image files have creation times so I can tell you that the render of all 250 frames was 1 hour and 48 minutes.
