Waves Rolling In and Crashing on Beach

would anyone have any clue how to create waves “rolling in” to the beach using the fluid sim? I’ve tried like, 10 different setups and cannot get a good result. i’m trying to create a beach scene with waves “crashing” on the surf. OceanSim modifier just doesn’t do it for me. i’ve even tried sculpting to no avail…can’t ever seem to get the interaction between the water and the beach to look right.

This gentleman here seems to have done what I’m looking for, only I have no idea how he did it:

well this may have been done with the DualSPhysics program and rendered in blender? not sure…anyway, the question still stands!
