WC110: "What is Holding You Back?"

Which should i use?
1 - Light Toon Shaded (lots of work!)

2 - Dark Toon Shaded (work = shading changes!)

3 - Realism Render (original lots of work!)

I am very fond of number one (edit: although looking at it again - the darker one grows on me too!) but i rather submit your favorite of the images so vote and then say what you think or how and why you voted your way!

thanks to all who gave pointers!

Definitely the bottom one. Also, it looks like he is falling over. Did you mean to make that happen?

I like number one as well. Looks nice. Good use of the toon shaders.

thanks! yes you (or someone) already commented on that! i did mean for him to look like he was tripping cause the gum was holding him back! %|

i don’t like the other version of him “falling” so i only want to use this one.

thanks! it is my first try and i put alot of work into getting them just right! i appreciate your support!

You need to improve your lighting.

You should find this tute quite useful: Realistic lighting

When you’ve learnt and applied these techniques, I’d like to see this image again.

thanks wiggie - i’ll look at that tut some more in a bit! i don’t know if i want to take time to improve this image or whether i’ll just use those techniques in a future project

The second image looks best, the bottom picture looks like it could really be improved.

thanks but i won’t be updating them i just want to know which i should use! thanks for the crit anyway though!

Hey, to make it look like he is falling, you could do motion blur.

i said i wouldn’t but here is a version with improved lighting although i don’t know if i will have time to make it full size in time! :frowning:

the left one is old and the right one is new - what do you think?

i don’t have an hour to render! sorry - i would have but he technically hasn’t fallen yet - he is just about to - motion blur could help though!?! I’ll see what i can get done!

about that tut, isn’t there a newer one in the lighting section of the 2.33 manual, that one is from 2003

ya i know - we have area lights already done - don’t need those weird setups and the global illumination can be achieved with ao!

You could do it if you want a quicker render

i am rendering as we speak and since it cartoon vs. realism is close i’ll pp two images together of both and submit it as one! mblur isn’t going to be happening though!

Awww… :expressionless:

ya i know! :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

throws self on ground crying! :stuck_out_tongue:

here it is in all its glory!

what do you think of that?

sorry about the image for all of those who are like me and have low res monitors! :-?

The second of those 2 look’s much better. The first image has the gum almost completely hidden in black lines.
