New project just finished would love some feedback!
Better viewing on my Artstation with animations and other views- Oscar Williams
Hello there and welcome to Blender Artists @OArt
, I hope you enjoy using the site.
Your artwork looks really nice, I like what you have done with the text. Especially on the third image on ArtStation.
Just a quick reminder, that images of realistic weapons are not eligible for the featured row and cannot be featured on Blender Nation. But incredible work none the less.
Oh, my bad, do I need to take it down?
No, they are fine on Blender Artists, they just won’t get displayed on the featured row or on Blender Nation.
The featured row is the row of images you see on the homepage, and Blender Nation is run by @bartv, he publishes the best artwork each week on there.
Why can’t they be featured? If it’s a rule then it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
I don’t know if that rule is published publicly on Blender Artists, but as a regular I can suggest artwork for the featured row.
In a thread that only regulars can access @bartv wrote:
Sorry, but no. This is where I step in as the site owner - no glorification of realistic weaponry, period. I’ll let people post them, but I will not feature them and share such images on social media.
Yep, my only gripe is with realistic current weaponry - and then especially hand-held weapons like guns. Anything historical, scifi, heavily stylized I can handle. I realise that leaves a gray area: what about a tank or a missile? Or a combat knife? I don’t have a clear-cut answer to that, I guess I’ll know it when I see it
Cool design but it does look a bit uncomfortable to hold, I don’t see a foregrip or handguard.
That’s fair. His site, his rules. And he probably has his reasons…
Thank you. I was thinking of that as a “upgrade” and have the character grip the mag area, displaying its high recoil. Or would a foregrip just look better?
I don’t mind. Just happy to post anywhere
Thank you
Most of the weight will be where the magazine is since it looks like the center of mass on your gun. On rifles and some submachine guns the weight is usually between the foregrip and grip so the weight is distributed between both hands. The shooter might have a hard time holding the bulk of the weapons weight with the hand that is on the mag grip.
Thank you very much. Huge help, Will improve for next time! Many thanks!
Well, I can see why !
Obviously there are tons of gray areas there…
Weapons have different meaning to different people, depending on one’s life experience and views they can be seen as fun stuff like we could find medieval weapons or armors kinda cool because they are completely outside of our real life. But maybe to someone else modern weapons can represent something more real and/or could be seen as a glorification of war or violence… Since ultimately the main purpose of a weapon is to arm people…
Obviously when we go down that road we can quickly start to ask where to draw the line between what is acceptable or not. Since you can probably find a lot of different case where something can be seen as offensive, and many cases where a weapon isn’t…
To that I don’t have answers I can only say that it make sense to me…
Anyway, it’s just about being featured in blendernation or the feature row, and while it’s super cool to be, I must say that this is probably going to have a very low impact on your actual life
And people still can enjoy that image in the artwork gallery or else !
Welcome!
I see you are going for a slightly worn texture, but the damage is completely random. This is the exact kind of angular model on which edge wear might look nice (in small amounts) and add to the realism.
It’s pretty easy to do, it’s automatic once the material is setup.
Casual suggestions: (1) “Do Not Cover” is a delightful bit of whimsy. (2) The proportions, e.g. of the pistol-grip versus the magazine, feel a little “off.” (3) The shoulder-extension would need to be more substantial than that, both for human comfort and to properly resist the recoil. (4) The effective caliber seems very small.
(5) However, the overall texture, lighting, and background presentation is, I think, very good for a “product catalog photograph.” My eye certainly could be persuaded that this is a real-world photo of an actual object with an added logo. (Ignoring possible “errors” on the magazine.)
