does anyone have an idea where i can get a hit counter for my website? I would prefer a banner free one. Also, is there something that i need to install for it to work? help would be greatly appreciated.

Where is your site?
If it’s on one of those hosting sites then, more often than not, they’ll offer a free counter.
GeoCities and Lycos (the only one’s I’ve tried) both do.
If they don’t I might be able to make one for you…
free, no ads or anything and they send you an e-mail every week telling you how many visitors you had a on every day that week.

It’s set up by crazymopho (see the SPUB site on elysiun chat).
Is it hard or does it take long to make one yourself?

What kind of scripting (if any) can you use on that site?
(ie PHP/ASP/JSP/CGI/etc)
If none, do you have access to the server (ie can you add it?)
the server itself does not need to have support, the counter could be remotely hosted via an iframe.
edit: i could do a quick asp one for you, you could get an account over at www.dotnetplayground.com - the best free/banner-free asp host that ive found, much better than brinkster. what features would you like? if you want it to be a non-text counter, then you could provide me with the digits.

Actually i’m in the process of preparing a CGI/PHP directory for the sbup websites… So hopefully soon i will have a counter script up and ready for you… Right now i’m having trouble finding a good counter script for muiltiple users :-?

is absolutely amazing!! very easy to install and it works and no banners!
the only thing is that if you want to log several pages at once it won’t work because it will add a count every time you go to the other page. so i got +12 just by checking if all the pages worked…
oh and you can’t have the counter displayed on a page that is not logged…
but still, it’s great!

You can get round that by having all your pages on one page, and then using javascript to switch between them. The counter won’t add to the counter because you won’t be opening up a new page.
yeah i has already done that but i also have a non-frames/non-javascript version.
So, i googled and i found a site with some code. It adds a cookie to your system and then it only adds to the counter if the cookie is not found. So now whenever i go to the site the counter doesn’t go up…

i think it only worked for me after a few tries, does it give you any errors or other messages when you try to register?
