Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here it is. I normally don’t really care but this time its just buggin me for some reason. I know that the WC is more for expierience and just to see how different people model the WC topic, but shouldn’t we try to model what the topic is, not just post a pic of something that looks cool. I guess what i’m refering to is the steam engine that is currently in top voting. I spent alot of time to try to develop an acctual “perpetuul mobile”. I know that the whole idea of a perpetual motion machine is not possible, but if i understand correctly, its a machine that works under its own power. burning wood is not useing its own power. I guess im just whinning because i thought that my machine was a good design, and i did a decent job modeling it (i think) but Enos comes in and models this awsome looking steam engine and will probably win because he did a great job. But it’s not a perpetuul mobile. Any way dont take this the wrong way, i think that the WC is awsome and I enjoy participating, I just wanted to here what other peoples veiw points on this are.
go look in the rules, im not wuite sure… i dont think it HAS to be, look at mine, it woulda been if i had more time
Yea i checked the rules and there is no stated rule that says the submission must follow the topic. I think it is just implied.
I think the weekend challenges allow for an individual’s own interpretation of the theme and the bounds of artistic license are far and wide.
I think that Enos’ Steam machine is in perpetuum motion, if the engine wasn’t working it wouldn’t feed it’self with wood. Ok the wood may run out, but I think that’s down to artistic license again and the essence of the process being captured in one instance and not in an animation.
I was and am very impressed with your entry, there is alot of thought there with regard to it’s mechanics and real life plausability as a perpetuum motive mechanism. More so perhaps than Enos’, but again we’re back to the artistic license.
Sonix.
OK I understand the artistic license, maybe I’m just blowing this whole thing way out of proportion. After all I even voted for Enos’ machine. Any way, there is always next time.
Idgas, I have to say that I studied every entry as much as I could and decided that yours is the best because it is simply ‘just right’. It is a perpetuum mobile, it is imaginative and it also looks good.
It is exactly what was asked for and if the voting was based on the ‘correctness’ of the entries then yours would win. (‘correctness’ isn’t really the word I was looking for.)
I voted for it before reading this thread, so don’t think i felt sorry for you.
I think that if something is wrong then it can’t be right (get what I mean?).
I agree that some degree of artistic license is fine, but it shouldn’t be taken too far. If, for example, a particular WC was “GIVE US CUBES!” I don’t think the winning entry should be a sphere.
