Weekly Blender Competition 2011 - #01

Welcome to the Year-long Blender Tourney!

Here is all you have to do to compete

Think about what you might like to make that has to do with the given topic. If the topic were to be say “Tools”, make a Tool of anykind as well as you possibly can.

Post that said item as a picture (a thumbnail if you could) Wireframe is optional… You might be ahead to add it because some people like to see them for extra modeling details and future reference. Fell free to add the picture via the blenderartists thumbnails (uploads), or a photobucket, etc URL. But please dont use a facebook URL… not all people use facebook.

Declare if it is your final entry or if you will be editing it further

Just to save you the trouble, go ahead and tell us all what programs, scripts, and etc that you used in the making of your project.

Have fun with everything, and remember that all voting is fair, as it is done by the other blender artists users.

After each week I will come on and open a voting post to find out our winner and also to create the next competition.
We are also going to treat these competitions as a year long tournament.
there will be weekly winners, even if only one person submits.
Then each 4 weekly winners from each month, will be entered into the monthly challenge, the monthly winners into quarter-year winners and the quarter-year winners will then be entered to the semi-finals. The Semi final winners would then be entered to a Final voting to see who was the top dog.

Any person who would win this would surely have his name known, which helps many people get jobs and other good things.

Please enjoy this competition and everybody Vote! and Compete!

The more people we have competing year-round the more attention these competitions will draw from all around the place.

I will check on everything going on once daily. At the end of each week/month/etc i will post the Voting. The voting will close in a weeks time when the next week’s voting begins, and the same from month to month and quarter to quarter

And Remember, you do not have to know “everything” there is to know about blender… Join even if you have just begun using blender, just so u can get some practice!

This weeks
Topic is…
Amphibians
examples : Frog, salamander, etc

Good Luck!

mind that this will end on saturdays each week

Hmmmm…

At first I was thinking that this new competition is just a replacement for Blackcougar’s WDC (because he hasn’t updated it in 2 months)…but the weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi challenge idea is really quite unique and profound. I hope you get lots of interest in this new challenge but I just hope it doesn’t face controversy if/when Blackcougar comes back online and gets the WDC up and running again. Blackcougar’s WDC has been running since 2007 and you just joined the forum this month and have created a challenge with almost identical rules to the WDC.

May I suggest modifing the rules some, just so that it is not a copy of the WDC?

Please understand that I am an advocate of competitions and challenges here on BlenderArtists, and I only want to see this challenge flourish.

Welcome the the forums by the way

Well gimme a shout if u have any ideas upon changing the rules a bit. And ty for the input. Id hate to mess with blackcouger’s commitment to his challenges

Id like to get it changed b4 its too far into the challenge

well ive changed it to a pretty fair idea. And i have one question lol how do i change the name of this thread to Year-Long Blender Tourney - Week #01 ? lol i know ill be changing this by next week but it would look nicer if i could change it now

A question: Where do you post your pictures?

@jbest right here on this thread, but they have to be uploaded to an external site like Photobucket /shop / vimeo/ etc. just public access sites, and then u get ur pics URL and link it from there using the picture insert at the top of these typing windows.

Here’s my entry (took me less than an hour). 100% blender

I think I may have misunderstood the topic…
(you don’t have to enter me if you don’t think it fits within the guide-lines)

Nice changes to the rules. When I have time I’ll definitely compete.

–Robo

well seeing as it is the start of the tourney and ive been changing the rules and what not i think this week i will take any and all entries… so long as they arent completly out there…’’

but out of interest when did you see the thread and decided you would join? that would make all of the difference

and btw ty for entering im trying to get this more heard so the entries will become a bit more active

okay, in the rules you say a thumbnail, but you just said an external link? can i use thumbnails and still be entered or do i have to upload to an outside source?

but out of interest when did you see the thread and decided you would join? that would make all of the difference
I saw it in the contests sub-forum…
I just like entering contests, be they weekly, monthly or daily. I first saw this thread when you where arguing about if it was copying someone else’s idea, but didn’t do anything until today.

(were you addressing me?)

yea all sorted out now except ill be changing the rules and info a smidge as we go, mainly the info cuz daniel was lost about the posting xD

sorry about that i did not realize that photos could be uploaded to blendderartists directly from your computer… i thought you “had” to use a photo hosting site like photobucket.

Here’s my entry.

Final.

Blender 2.56, GIMP 2.6

Good luck all and happy 2011

I dont care if this is entered lol i began to model this frog in 3-D but im still new and im not to great at things yet, so i just made him on a cardboard advertisement xD Anyhow its a great perk =P

But yes i did model the frog, but hes only on one plane (dimension) because it was done in the front view only.

and then i just kinda used the UV mapping to put the picture on the guy, which isnt really “making” the whole project myself.

anyhow your guys’s choice

and btw… @Robo
Was your entry completly in sculpting? its very nice looking =D

Just a reminder… even though i was late at getting this started i will still be closing entries at 3 pm Eastern Standard time, each saturday… including tomorow.

afterwards i will start the votes and begin the next challenge!

Also im gunna change the name of the threads from now on to

  <b><i>Year Long Blender Tourney - Week #**</i></b>

Just wondering, which EST are you closing the contest at? Australian? American? Other? T I realy like the sound of this contest but I was too late this week, finishing of a script I’m working on.

@Mcegtm: Just a quick comment about the text, the text is casting a shadow and to me this makes it look blurry. Have you thought of increasing bevel depth and move the text to the same plane as the frog is on?

Would it be a problem if I used something I had made previously? If its a problem, no worries.
