Weight paint copy ?

(malefico) #1

Hi pals:

(this is about Mesh Deforming-> Vertex Grouping)

I wonder if there is any way to copy the weight paint from a group to another (for simetrical characters, so both groups have the same homologue vertices). I’m having trouble trying to not only assign the vertices to a group but assign the exact weight to those vertices.
For instance my character’s left leg deforms differently than the right left.

So, is there any way to copy the weight paint ? Should I do something else ?

Cheers.

the best way to do that is to copy the part you want to mirror, sepate it in another mesh (Pkey), mirror it, rename the group and join it back.

Hmmm, I see. But what about those vertices that belong to several groups ?

Anyway, looks like there is no easy way to do it, right ? (and that I should have weight-painted while modelling :frowning: )

Cheers.

well, lets say, for example, that you have an arm that you want to mirror. after you copied and split the mesh, you’d only have to change the .r for .l (assuming you are copying a right arm into a left arm, and assuming that you used the *.r vs *.l structure). Even if they are assigned to more then one groups, the weight and groups assignement will stay the same, only the name of the groups will change.
