Weight Painting in 2.5a2

Hi all,

I took the plunge and started with 2.5 alpha 2 and I’m weight painting a character. I have one observation and one question…

1st, the weight painting seems a bit slow. I’m using an intel dual core 2.7Ghz with 2gigs ram. While it’s not a blazing fast machine, it’s no slouch either. So I kinda doubt it’s the computer…but I want to hear opinions…

2nd, Is the Alt-R to clear bone rotations while in weight paint mode missing from 2.5?? I, like I’m sure most of you, quite frequently rotate bones to find vertices not weight painted to bones. Then, in 2.49b, I would just clear the rotation with Alt-R. In 2.5 that doesn’t work. Is there something I am missing here?? Or is there a new keyboard/mouse combo to clear bone rotations while weight painting?? I can switch to pose mode, clear the rotation with Alt-R, and switch back to weight paint mode just fine, but it slows down the work…

Any help is appreciated…
Randy

Hard to say… it’s fast enough here… I have a slightly faster quad core with more memory, so maybe that’s why. But I don’t see any difference between 2.49 and 2.5 in this regard.

ALT-R does work in pose mode. I’ve never tried it in weight paint mode, though. I usually lay down a few keyframes of extreme poses and then simply move through the timeline to get to the various poses. (Like what Cessan does in the big buck bunny rigging tutorial) I find this is easier than trying to move things around while I am concentrating on weight painting.

One thing I have noticed, though, is the X-symmetry mode in weight painting gives slightly uneven results. Especially when just applying default weighting. The left and right are sometimes radically different. Dunno why…
