There is this ability I am used to say in Maya or Mudbox, where you can have the brush follow and thus restrict its paint area to the surface normals. In Mudbox I think it is called “Orient to Surface”.
Can’t find anything like this in the manual or interface.
Am I missing it?
Is there a weight paint add on that addresses this?
I know I can restrict to a selection or clip, but tedious, not interactive or nearly the same thing.
In the Weight Painting Options tab is a checkbox labeled “Normals.” Tool tip is “Apply the vertex normal before painting,” which is rather obscure. Does this option do what you want?
Wow. Sorry for the very late response but, no. That is not it.
It has been discussed here:
When it was finally understood, no, apparently it does not exist in Blender. It should. Blender paints in screen space.
In Mudbox for example you can paint in tangent space. Means your brush follows the surface normals and projects from there. Not in screen space which is horrible in some situations.
