Weirdness with clipping in 3d view

So this bizarre thing is going on where whenever something is moved too far away from the (0;0;0) point it becomes invisible:

Changing clipping settings doesn’t do anything to this phenomena. Not to mention this weird gray cylinder enigma, I bet it has something to do with this.

This happens in all viewport shading modes except Rendered.
Please help.


Try appending the scene into a new blend file.

press alt+b to reset the clipping border. There is a 3d clipping border in each viewport, along with the 2d border for render previews and the camera border for final renders. It’s a little confusing, but that 3d clipping border is handy for isolating part of a scene you want to work on.
