Well, I can't Help Myself - Update July 25 - Page 4

I’m so damned full of ideas in my head that I started another WIP.

/me slaps himself with a very large and wet trout - " Finish something before you do more stuff you idiot!!! "

Anyway, here it is thus far:

C&C as always.

ooo very nice cloth, and the rounded edges (is it called bevelling?) are just wonderful, cool idea too- a statue I take it?

and, no, seriously I think you could possibly be the next @ndy! just keep practicing!

WOw! I got first comment for once!

Ha u are like me…

…too many wips lying around

Great start i’d say. How did u do it, Pure modeling or somekind secret tecnique :o

missing a block under that cloth

oh wait! don’t replace it quite yet! chip off the blocks around it! like it is partly destroyed! :stuck_out_tongue: that would give it a wonderful aging technique to just take out chunks all over, it would be realistic too!

How would you model the chunks…? I think it would look awesome but I can’t see an easy method for doing it…

Looks awesome so far bgDM. Nice soft edges, fluid cloth. Nice mat too.

dante

sudiv fractal with a good bump can give some pretty cool effects

Looking very nice so far BgDM. :o Stone statue with Yafray render or Blender render?

Heh I think this is a disease transmitted with blender.

Looking forward to the updates,

Sonix.

Half finished work, better than nothing at all. It is just that we do what we can do.
This is a problem with blender, even though that the workflow is quite smooth and you can create so many things in short time, but you get into trouble the more you dig into complexity in your work. Things turn to be sort of nightmare. I consider these models you did so far and you refer to them as WIP as an achievements.
Nice model. I won’t say “Hope to see the finished work”, instead, I will say "Hope to see more of your work  "

Very nice start

actually what will be within the cloth?

If it will be a woman, from the cloth shape I’m afraid she will be closer to Margaret Tatcher than to Nathalie Portman :expressionless:

Of course if it is a candle then I’m wrong

Stefano

Looking nice. How did you get that material to look like that?

  • Atariman -

not bad, but the cloths are far too stiff imho… They dont really ‘hang’ and clothes hardly have 90°degrees at the edges.

henrik

who’s the critbitch now? :stuck_out_tongue:
i thought his intention was to create an artistic cloth like thing and nothing photoreal.

very nice job BgDM! i assume it’s another one of those cool looking faked GI render WIPs
having too many WIPs isnt bad, at least you’ve got enough ideas in your mind :o

keep it up!
.andy

good work BgDM !!

looks nice

Looks cool so far. I know what you mean about WIP I’ve got several going myself. Sometimes it works better that way so when I get stuck, bored, unspired ect I can just work on something else for awhile then come back refreshed. Sometimes your mind just needs a break while it figures out something new to do to a program. Looking forward to seeing how this comes out.
Paradox

WOW! :o All these replies. Thanks everyone.

Thanks! Yes it is called bevelling. And yes, a statue of some kind.

It’s pretty easy actually. I just added a circle with 32 verts. extrude, scale, rotate, extrude, etc. until you get the shape you want. Then, subdivide fractal and set Sub-D to level 3 for render.

LOL. Yeah. Actuall, the coth at the back slopes down, so I need to figure out something there.

Well, I think it will have to be a bump map of somekind. If I was using LW or something else, I could just cut some poly’s into it and extrude the cracks in, but heh, it ain’t that easy in Blender. %|

Indeed. I may just do that.

I think I will push a Blender render on this one. I want to see what I can do with the lighting and such on this one.

I agree to an extent here. Yes, you can get into some troubles and problems on a complex model. However, if you plan out your methods before hand, you can forsee these problems and not get yourself into them as well.

Within the cloth? How about a shaved ox head with lipstick and a big red bow on it’s head? :stuck_out_tongue:

And yes, it is not gonna be a Natalie Portman shape, that is for sure. If you recall, the women in the olderdays, and art, were larger and more portly than they are today. So this is the look I am going for.

What do you mean exactly? The material has basically no specularity to it and I used the dupliverted spots on an icosphere lighting method to fake the GI lighting. That is about it.

I see what you mean. I will try and smooth that out a bit, but not too much, as I agree with @ndy. Thanks.

Thanks @ndy! Yep, another faked GI render. Too many WIP’s can be bad, cause then you loose track of where you were with the last one. I will get back to all of my WIP’s eventually, just a matter of time.

Thanks man!

Thanks paradox. Yeah, I was getting bored of looking at my plane model and my beast model is getting too complex and not really going the way I wanted it too. So just a temporary break.

Thanks again for all the nice comments everyone. It is appreciated.

Hopefully a small update later today.

The thing that I like to do, is that every single Idea that I have, I write it down on paper, either in a sketch, or just simple words, so when I review my papers I’m like “oh my god! I thought of that? that’s cool!” and then get right back to work

BgDM,

Love the modeling work. Maybe you could try a UV map texture. I would try maybe a cloud texture in Photoshop or GIMP. Or maybe you could try the displacment script I saw posted here a few days ago. Not sure where.

Lastly there is always Wings3D as an option.

That is exactly what I think I will do. If I can get a nice displacement map to generate some errosion, pot marks, etc. on the mesh, it will be great. Along with a nice old, dirty stone texture as well.

I’m currently playing with the base. Trying to get some nice stonework done there. Hopefully I can let you all see later on.

UPDATE

Started on the head model. This is my first attempt at a realistic human head. I think it’s coming along not to bad.

This will not be animated, so edge loops will likely not be followed the the letter, but I will try.

C&C is appreciated.
