Been working on this for a little would love some ideas on how to improve it. Here are two slightly different color schemes

Great work!
First one looks warmer in my opinion.
You can add diffirent pines, some rocks on the lake shore and birds in the sky.

Looks really nice. but from a composition point of view I have a couple of suggestions.

  1. The break in the treeline on the far left pulls my focus away from the focus of the image.
  2. The snowline on the mountain is too low. With the snowline that low I would expect the entire image to be covered with snow.
  3. you could add some trees to separate the mountain in the background. lift the mountain top from the middle of the image. but then you would have to pull the horse and rider more into the foreground which might not be a bad idea anyway.

First off, I like your picture. has a “classic western” feel to it. Could be a painting or movie shot.
Heres my opinion, and personal taste. I like the color temperature of the second picture. It feels more “idealic” and cozy, might teak the contrast a smidge to. bring some darks in Second, Me personally, I like wide crops. 16/9 is a go to for me. It just feels better on a computer screen I think. If your doing prints, 4/3 would feel better then.

Only critique, is it looks im guessing that this is a high mountain lake. judging from the mountain in the background. But vegetation is wildly different from here as the mountain in the background at the same elevation. With the kind of trees and bushes here, I would expect that the mountain in the background will have some scrub trees/bushes all of the way up it, and more thick vegetation farther down.

I tweaked the white balance a little, tweaked the contrast, and cropped it.

Man just the little tweak to the color balance and it looks way better, thats one thing I have a hard time with thank you. Also could you tell me what settings you used for the white balance and contrast want to get an idea, thank you for the awesome feedback.

No problem.
I use paint shop pro x9. So may be a little different for whatever software you use.

Some things I like to do when adjusting. I always work with a minimum of two layers, that way I can easily switch between the original, and the adjusted image.
With bright/contrast I will add a third layer often, switch it to black and white, then tweak B+C so I have a point in the picture where there is black (not gray) and a point where there is white. then if you use those settings on the color layer, you wont have been confused by the colors and get “perfect” exposure. It doesn’t always look good, but its a place to start.
With temp, I totally yellow it out so it looks nasty. Then I slide it back towards blue. Kinda erases how it was before in my mind.

Thank you very much this will help a ton.

Really great job Kless
You are heading for epic so keep pushing these little things that only a few can see

Keep blending

May I ask, how did you generate those trees? Esp. the Pine trees.

Love the image btw. I think it’s cool that the rider is so far in the distance, almost becoming part of the landscape.
